Wonder Woman Completely Shut Out from Oscar Nominations

Despite industry and critical acclaim, Wonder Woman was completely shut out of the 2018 Oscar nominations. The Academy has no love for “Wonder Woman”.

It seems Diana of Themyscira’s box-office clout held no sway over academy voters. In fact, “Wonder Woman” is the highest ever domestic grossing film of 2017 to receive zero Oscar nominations.

The 2018 Oscar nominations were officially announced Tuesday, and the top-grossing superhero film of the 2017 domestic box office was surprisingly shut out of all 24 categories.

Wonder Woman tabbed as one of the serious contender for best picture honors after recieving one of the 11 nominations for the Producers Guild of America’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award.

Steamrolling its competition throughout the summer, not only did Wonder Woman end the summer as the No. 1 film of the season with earnings $412.5 million at the domestic box office. Also it nearly doubled those ticket sales overseas to end with a stunning global gross of $821.8 million.

The academy recognized both “Beauty & The Beast” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” only films with higher domestic grosses than “Wonder Woman.” “The Last Jedi” earned four nominations while “Beauty and the Beast” nabbed 2 nods.

Even other superhero films also fared better than “Wonder Woman.” “Logan” picked up an adapted screenplay nomination. While “Guardians of Galaxy 2” was among the visual effects nominees.

Now, on the heels of Wonder Woman being snubbed by the Golden Globes ,Wonder Woman is again out of luck again after failing to nab a single nomination at the 90th Annual Academy Awards.

Wonder Woman wasn’t the only superhero blockbuster to be surprisingly shut out at this year’s nominations. Thor: Ragnarok praised for its spectacular visual effects and production design, also failed to yield any of the Oscar nominations.

The Oscars voting body has the flexibility to nominate up to 10 films but, through its convoluted voting system, only went with nine this year. If there’s any saving grace, Logan, earned a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, which is surprisingly a major breakthrough for the superhero movie genre since the nod came in a major category.
